FALL 2014 COMPLETELY FREE WORKSHOPS
COMPLETELY FREE FALL 2014 WORKSHOPS are held Saturdays. Programs start at 1:30 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. The Museum’s Completely Free Workshops focus on providing a direction for creativity, often using Museum exhibits as a starting point. The programs are primarily for participants ages 7-13.
IMPORTANT: Pre-registration is required. Registration for workshops opens Monday, September 8. To register, just call the Museum, at 618/453-5388. Note: Programs without adequate registration will be canceled two days prior to the program and registrants will be notified.
Fall 2014 Workshops have Girl Scouts as a Partnership Group. Partnership groups work with the Museum to create workshops for the groups. These workshops are also open to the public.
FAMILY STORY BOOK : OCTOBER 4
Participants will create albums in which to place items that tell their family story - photos, artwork, news clippings, etc.
SECRET CODES: OCTOBER 11
We’ll look at artwork from the museum’s collection that contains symbols and codes. Then we’ll create symbols on foam stamps and use them to print mysterious codes. We will trade these codes with each other to see who can discover them. Then we’ll create places to hide our secret codes - boxes that look like books!
MUSICAL INVENTIONS: OCTOBER 18
The machine-like sculptures of Jean Tinguely made extraordinary metal music. Using sculpture from the museum’s collection and a video of Tinguely’s sculptures as inspiration, participants in this workshop will create
DESIGNOSAURUS!: OCTOBER 25
We will look at beautiful product designs from the past seen in objects from the museum’s collection. We’ll look at modern designs and unusual designs as well. Then we’ll put together product designs of our own using a mix of artistic media.
ARTISTS TRADING CARDS IV: NOVEMBER 8
Trading cards are a grand tradition from baseball cards to Pokemon. In this
