Was part of a panel discussion for SIAM.
IAM sponsored Museum Day at the state capitol in Springfield on March 9th was a success. Next year, the Illinois State Museum may host a reception afterwards so museum attendees will have time to network.
The IAM Board is working on the Strategic Plan for the next five years. The current plan ends in 2005.

www.boardcafe.org is a Website devoted to self-assessment information.

The Annual IAM Conference will be held October 12-14, 2005, in St. Charles, Illinois.

The Advocacy Committee has developed a legislative platform that will be shared with museums via the IAM list serve.

Claudia Dant is chair of the IAM Nominating Committee to fill vacant slots. If interested in being nominated, please contact Claudia at ctdant@shawneelink.net.

Task Force is working on guidelines for museums that are part of a larger organization (colleges, universities, park districts, etc).

The Capital Grant FY 04 funds will be released by August 1, 2005. FY 06 allocation of $10 million dollars has not been brought up for discussion/vote by the Illinois Legislature. Karen Whittier of the Illinois State Museum has details.

Marketing Committee Report
Status of various projects were discussed and the following were designated as two needs: SIAM Regional Directory (will be completed Fall 2005)--it will have detailed listings of all Region I Museums (SIAM's service area) that have completed the form; all other museums will just have basic information. Adrienne will send out questionnaire once more at the end of May 2005. Either John A. Logan College Museum or the University Museum will put together the directory. SIAM Brochure needs to be accomplished. Funding was to come from Doc Milner, but he has resigned from his position. The following projects were seen as being on indefinite hold: Media Directory the status is unknown and members discussed that each does their own publicity and chances for it to be advertised in all of SIAM counties is minimal. Speakers List will be revisited at a later time and decided if it is necessary.

Technical Assistance Committee Report
The Collection Management Workshop on June 11, 2005 was discussed. As of the meeting, six people have agreed to attend. There will be more. An Exhibits Design workshop will be offered in 2006, once a presenter has been identified. The Committee members asked for other ideas for roundtable discussions and workshops.

Development Committee Report
The development workshop held on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at John A. Logan College Museum and conducted by Jo Nast was a success. Attendees learned a lot. Due to low numbers attending, we may want to offer this workshop again. April-October appear to be busy times for our SIAM members.

Administrative Committee
Adrienne Barkley Giffin reported that the May 2005 deadline for non-profit status was unrealistic. Busy schedules and problems with identifying a legal entity have stalled the process. She would like to schedule a meeting of Committee members for June and have Bruce Davis, Office of Economic and Regional Development at SIUC attend. Mike Brush suggested that Bruce Davis attend our July 25 meeting at Jackson County Historical Society.

Proposed Changes

Members present voted on keeping the meeting times at 5 p.m. and the museum tours at 4 p.m., due to various work schedules.
In 2006, members present voted to have meetings occur bi-monthly (February, April, June, August, October) with Committee meetings and workshops held the months meetings are not held (March, May, July, September, November).

SIAM List Serve
Lori Huffman discussed the need for members to subscribe to the list serve. Advantages include the sharing of events and meeting dates in a timely manner. Protocol was discussed on how they work and how EVERYONE who is a member of the list serve receives the information posted. Since February, only 4 members have subscribed.

The Future: What Now--Open Discussion
Lori discussed the need to once again revisit SIAM¹s goals and objectives and where we go from here. It was pointed out by Mike Brush that we have accomplished a lot for a non-formal group; members enthusiastically agreed! At the July 25, 2005, meeting at the Jackson County Historical Society members need to bring suggestions based on our initial survey, identified goals/objects and priorities.

Adjourn
The next SIAM event will be the Collection Management Workshop on June 11 at the Wabash County Museum in Mt. Carmel. The next meeting will be on July 25 at the Jackson County Historical Society in Murphysboro.

A very special thank-you was extended to Claudia Dant at the Wabash County Museum for hosting the meeting. Also, congratulations to the Museum for obtaining a new facility, which we had the pleasure to see.

If you find broken links, have questions or concerns with the site, please email the webmaster.
