She did say that an email notice was sent by IAM for a grant for Technology Projects. Those interested can contact her for the information. Claudia also talked about the annual conference in Danville, Illinois, and encouraged SIAM members to attend. Lori Huffman talked about a presentation Adrienne Barclay Griffin and she are giving on SIAM at this conference.

Discussions of action/slogan statement for SIAM.
Lori Huffman listed slogans submitted to date and asked for more ideas. Mike Brush and Eric Livingston submitted five more slogans. This brings the total number of slogan ideas to ten. A ballot is being sent out with the July meeting notice and is due back Thursday, July 22. The winning slogan will be announced at the July 26 meeting.

Marketing Committee Report.
Pam Madden reported that the Committee is focusing on the October Marketing Conference. It was asked if we were going to create a brochure for SIAM; a suggestion was made to create a directory using information gathered. Pam reported that the Southern Illinoisan could design and print 10,000 tri-folded brochures for $700 (full color). She also reported that the Passport is still being discussed. One point that was made was the need to know how long our museums have been in existence. This could go in the brochure.

Technical Assistance Committee Report.
Referring to the March 2004 survey results, Lori proposed a need for two workshops. One workshop would be on Collection Management (registration and preservation methods) and the other on Museum Exhibits (content, design, and installation). Attendees agreed on the need for a workshop format. Saturdays were best form 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March was seen as the best month for the Collection Management Workshop and June for the Museum Exhibits Workshop. The SIU Museum staff, who teach museum studies courses, as well as others identified to cover topic areas, will conduct these workshops. An information sheet will be sent at a later date to help define these workshops.

Suggestions for future roundtable discussions at out regular meetings need to be submitted to a member of the Technical Committee so that it is on the Agenda.

Development Committee Report.
Members of the Committee were not present. It was suggested that a roundtable discussion on funding sources and another one on grant writing be offered at one of our monthly meetings. Lori offered to contact the Development Committee to express the group¹s need for these roundtable discussions.

Next meeting Monday, July 26, 2004:
Wabash County Museum and Living Legacy Farmstead in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Homework Assignment for Next Meeting:
Remember to return your SIAM Slogan ballot by Thursday, July 22 bring brochures to share with others (10 packets of 15 each), send questions to be discussed at the Volunteers within Museums roundtable on July 26, and bring ideas for technical discussions

Open Discussion.
Pam may be writing a monthly column for the Southern Illinoisan newspaper about regional museums. It was suggested that she write about a museum visited during a SIAM monthly meeting. It will be entitled something like, "Museums in Your Backyard." The column will include museum facts and upcoming events. She will mention SIAM's existence. The group was very supportive in her efforts to take this on.

If you find broken links, have questions or concerns with the site, please email the webmaster.
