Colby Parsons-O’Keefe

“Worm” is a ceramic work created in 1997 and was one of the “Seat Art” competition winners sponsored by the Sharp Museum.

Colby earned his Bachelor of Philosophy at School of Interdisciplinary at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1991, with a focus in Fine Arts and emphasis in Ceramics. His MFA in 1998 from SIUC School of Art and Design. He is currently an Associate Professor at Texas Woman’s University in Denton. Texas. Parsons artist statement comments that his current work is sculptural, often making use of found objects and other materials. His research explores the transformative potential at the intersection of physical material and digital media. His background in ceramics gives him an aesthetic based in raw materiality, but he is also interested with the possibility of new media, motion, or kinds of interactivity to what is usually static in nature.
